Battle.net on Mac OS X Intro | Diablo I | Diablo II & StarCraft | WarCraft II BNE | WarCraft III

StarCraft & Diablo II on Mac OS X using ResEdit

Step 1

Make a back up copy of your "Battle.net Preferences" file. I'm sure you won't need it, but in the event something happens, you'll be glad that you can easily go back to where you started. This will be located on your hard drive under Users/your user name/Library/Preferences/Battle.net Preferences.

Step 2

Launch ResEdit and open "Battle.net Preferences" preferences file. If you prefer to use ResFool, click here. This edit will change both Diablo II and StarCraft.

Step 3

Double click the icon labeled HKEY.

Step 4

Once the following "HKEYs from Battle.net Preferences" window has opened, select Resource from the menu bar, and then choose "Create New Resource" from the pull down menu.

Step 5

Define a port number by entering one of the following 16 digit strings in the new "HKEY ID" resource window that has just opened. I'd suggest using the recommendations from the Battle.LAN pdf. (download PDF)
Computer  Port decimal hexadecimal 16 digit string
8 Port # 6112 (default) 17e0 0000 0004 0000 17e0
7 Port # 6113 17e1 0000 0004 0000 17e1
6 Port # 6114 17e2 0000 0004 0000 17e2
5 Port # 6115 17e3 0000 0004 0000 17e3
4 Port # 6116 17e4 0000 0004 0000 17e4
3 Port # 6117 17e5 0000 0004 0000 17e5
2 Port # 6118 17e6 0000 0004 0000 17e6
1 Port # 6119 17e7 0000 0004 0000 17e7

Step 6

Close the "HKEY ID" window after you've added a 16 digit port number.

Step 7

With your newly created resource still highlighted in the "HKEYs from Battle.net Preferences" window, select "Resource" from the menu bar, and choose "Get Resource Info".

Step 8

In the Name Box, enter "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Battle.net\Configuration\Game Data Port", minus the quotes. I know it's a lot of type for such a small box, but trust me, it will fit. Close all open windows, with the exception of the first window that was presented to you when you opened the preference file.

Step 9

Once your "HKEYs from Battle.net Preferences" window contains the new "Game Data Port" entry, select File from the file menu and then choose Save and then Close.

Step 10

Repeat for any additional computers on your LAN. Make sure that you choose a different port number set for each computer.

Step 11

If everything went as expected, you should be able to connect multiple computers on your LAN to Battle.net. If not, overwrite your edited preference file with your original back up file. Nothing lost, nothing gained.

Step 12

Keep in mind that if you are connecting multiple computers to Battle.net, you will need either multiple Spawned versions running on all but one of the computers, or a unique CD-Key for each computer. If you need to purchase additional copies, feel free to click on one of the links to purchase from Amazon.com. This will help support this site, and hopefully keep my wife from killing me in my sleep. Before you purchase any additional software though, make sure that everything works correctly by logging in with Spawned copies. From what I've read, some routers may not support this option. If you do get it to work, send me an email listing which router you're using. Ideally, I'll begin a list of confirmed compatible routers when using Battle.net.
